Of course you did. Pretty much everyone did ... except maybe city officials after they got to know me. I still remember one of them ... he was new. We went to lunch. He told me people at city hall "warned" him that what he told me might wind up in the paper. I was like, um, no shit sherlock, that's literally exactly my job.
If there was a new Netflix series about the life of a reporter in the 90s (minus the modem, this could be the 70s or 80s too)……..this could be the pilot episode! Doors open and close and we don’t always see the open ones at the right time.
I can imagine an entire episode built around the tension between trying to be wise with your resources and buy Kraft mac and cheese, and splurging for Velveeta shells and cheese.
Enjoyed the story, very entertaining. Got me thinking when I use to write for a music magazine back in the 80s. Way before anybody had home computers I would type up my story on my electric typewriter and drop it in the mail barely getting it in before deadline. Seems a lot less stressful than what you went thru. Simpler times.
This really takes me back to my first job at the Huron Daily Tribune. Crappy apartment yes. Got taken off local politics beat and put on farming beat but not before I interviewed my future husband. Good times
Jill!! Hello! A hair stylist moved in where the shoe repair shop was. She always had the police scanner on super loud, and the smell of her chemicals was overpowering.
I remember seeing that fresh face filled with enthusiasm. I may have been a little cocky then but think I welcomed you.
